Welcome to Bonza Bay

Bonza Bay is situated on the east coast of South Africa. It is part of Beacon Bay, a suburb of East London The seashore, lagoon and dune forest is an area of unspoilt natural beauty. It is home to a large variety of fauna and flora - and some lucky people!

What we do

  • Observations of fauna and flora, especially birds and trees
  • Articles about conservation, crabs, dune bush, invasive alien weeds, ming pottery, oyster catchers, shipwrecks, spittle bugs, and vegetation

  • Keep records of rainfall and the water level in the Quinira Lagoon

BLUE BOTTLE STINGS

13 December — BLUE BOTTLE STINGS

This article is addressed to parents and grandparents who take their children to the beach. If those children get stung by blue-bottles it may turn a happy outing sour. Always to take a blue-bottle sting remedy just in-case. The remedy can be packed in the beach bag along with the towels, sarmies and suntan lotion. In emergency : a plant "a fygie" Carpobrotus which can be used to sooth the stings. It has been planted at the Life Savers "shack" for your convenience.
